what to wear to a university lecture in leeds
Aug 29, 2022 10:12 amStarting uni can be super daunting, your mind is boggling with lots of thoughts about home, making friends and if you’ll enjoy your course. The last thing you want to think about it your outfit for uni, but you’ll soon realise this is actually important! We have pulled together some basic ideas for putting out an outfit for a uni lecture together. Keep reading to know more!
We spent so much time stressing about the perfect outfit for a night out with friends and for exploring the city, but little did you know that you’ll be attending lectures most days so it’s always helpful to know what other students wear so you’re always a step ahead when starting in September.
You don’t need to be a fashionista every day, on the whole UK students tend to wear something super comfy. Most of the students will also go for their university hoodie and a pair of jeans. Of course, it’s not easy to drag yourself out of bed every morning for a lecture, and what to wear is definitely the last thing on your mind. So keep it simple, choose whatever makes you feel confident and cosy. Just make sure you manage to actually change out of your pj’s!
Most uni lectures last for about 50 minutes, so you’ll be glued in your chair for around an hour sadly! It’s best to wear something casual so you can focus on what your lecturer is actually saying. However, there will be days when you have to put in a little extra effort in dressing up. For example, if you have a presentation to make, jeans and a plain t-shirt would do it!
You should never be afraid to express yourself at uni, and shopping second hand allows you to bag something out there for a super affordable price. There are so many charity and vintage shops in Leeds like Blue Rinse, Ryan Vintage and Cow vintage- all within a short walk from each other! Not only is a new second hand outfit going to make you feel confident about yourself, it also helps to combat clothes going to landfill. Plus, dressing up in a funky outfit might make you want to actually attend your lectures, instead of hitting that snooze button!
There are some of the basic key items to stuff in your bag to take to uni; numerous pairs of jeans, comfy baggy trousers, warm jumpers (as the UK can get very chilly in the winter), t-shirts and trainers.
Last but not least, you need to invest in a decent backpack or bag to carry around campus. This will be filled with all the uni essentials like coursebooks, pencil case, water bottle and your lunch (if you’re the organised type)!
