Here’s what’s happening for Chinese New Year in Leeds

Yes, it’s arrived pretty early in 2016, and as it’s the Year of the Monkey, it would be rude not to get out into Leeds to show off your social side.
Whether you’re into arts and crafts, martial arts, song and dance or just love Chinese food, there’s something for everyone. Let’s take a look what’s happening in Leeds this year.
The Chinese New Year Festival at the Leeds Town Hall
To soak up the most eclectic mix of Chinese culture the city has to offer, then you must attend this now annual festival at the Town Hall. The Leeds Chinese Community Association are responsible for the festivities and have promised 2016 is going to be the best yet. Sample authentic cuisine and crafts at the many stalls, and enjoy live entertainment which includes martial arts, music and of course a traditional Lion Dance.
Leeds Chinese Collection curated by Antonia Lovelace – 5 February
Fans of art will adore the beautiful collection of Chinese artefacts, which includes pieces old and new. Curated by Antonia Lovelace, this is an exclusive one day, adult only event with a focus on the Chinese Zodiac – and your £10 entrance fee also includes lunch. Places are limited, so head to the Leeds GOV site to enquire about tickets for this daytime event.

Sweet Basil Restaurant in Roundhay serve up some of the finest Chinese cuisine you’ll find in Leeds –they are so popular in fact, that their stall at last year’s Chinese New Year festival could barely keep up with demand! Something to Remind You of Your Childhood
Chinese New Year celebration is all about spending as much time as possible and reliving your childhood, then there’s several events aimed at little nippers. Leeds City Museum are holding a Chinese New Year Lantern Workshop on Wednesday 3 February, whilst Moor Allerton Library are hosting a free dancing dragon and paper lantern workshop on Saturday 13 February from 10am.
