In life, there’s always those days when diets have to go out of the window and the only food you can contemplate is pizza. Whilst there’s never a shortage of it, there’s a lot of bad pizza out there, and who has time for that?

From traditional to artisan, to downright adventurous- we pick out our favourite Leeds pizza hot spots so you can satisfy your lust for cheese and dough.

Tapped

On the surface, you may not expect this Boar Lane beer lovers retreat would have one of Leeds best pizza menus, but they do. From their warming Ruby Murray, featuring beef keema, chillies and coriander to their walnut and gorgonzola topped Bit of Blue, their Big Dan’s thin crust creations are the perfect companion to their fine ales. And because size matters, they even do a whopping 18 inch monster to satisfy even the largest of appetites.

Slate NQ

Thirteen isn’t considered an unlucky number down at Slate NQ, as that’s how many pizzas Leeds premier pool bar serve up from their wood-fired oven. As well as classic favourites, they offer toppings such as bresaola and truffle salami, as well as vegetarian options which are anything but dull. When the weather picks up you can tuck into your food al-fresco on their splendid rooftop terrace.

The Belgrave

Head to The Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen and you get a dose of comedy with their pizza-by-the-slice Dough Boys menu. The imaginatively titled Salami of Darkness and Sausage Fest leave no need to guess the ingredients, whilst Baa No More features Middle Eastern spiced lamb, pine nuts, pomegranate, pecorino and baby red chard. Nice. Get your slice for half price before 7pm Sun-Thurs or before 5pm Fri-Sat.

Salvo’s

This award-winning, Headingley based restaurant has been at the top of its game since 1976, and even featured on Gordon Ramsay’s F-Word show, where they won the UK’s Best Neighbourhood Italian Restaurant. With recipes originating from Southern Italy, this unassuming eatery is a treat for the taste buds – they even do a gluten free pizza with the toppings of your choice.

Sela Bar & Pizzeria

Blink and you might miss Sela Bar on New Briggate, but doing so means you’re missing out on some damn fine dough. Hand pulled and stone baked, their unique take on classic creations sets them apart from most. We can’t get enough of their Meat Feast, which is smothered in everything from beef to chorizo as well as all the other usual suspects.
